Why Choose A Specialist Orthodontist?

YOU DESERVE A SMILE that reflects your best possible you, which is why you deserve an orthodontist who is a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO), like Dr Rosario Rodriguez.

It takes three additional years of specialized study beyond dental school to become an orthodontist. Those extra years are what make us experts in straightening teeth and correcting bites to give our patients healthy, beautiful smiles, and only dentists who complete them are eligible to become members of the ASO.

Orthodontists specialise in creating beautiful smiles.

As part of your dental team, a specialist orthodontist has the ability to align your teeth to help create beautiful smiles – but it is not just about straight teeth.

Orthodontists are the most qualified specialists to plan, create and retain your new smile. Obtaining the best bite is also important when undertaking treatment. Too often patients are led to believe that achieving straight front teeth is what orthodontic treatment is all about. As orthodontists, not only can we create an improved smile but one that is harmonious and balanced with an individual’s profile.

Although moving teeth seems like a simple process, it is not. Make sure you entrust your/your child’s teeth, bite and smile to the most qualified person – a trained and registered specialist orthodontist.

Who can be an orthodontist?

Orthodontists are dentists who have done an additional full time degree at an accredited university to become registered specialists in orthodontics.

Orthodontists in Australia must:

  • Complete an AHPRA registered general dental degree.
  • Have the equivalent of at least two years clinical experience as a dentist.
  • Complete an accredited three year full-time university degree in orthodontics.
  • Be registered as a Specialist in Orthodontics.

How do I know if my Orthodontist is an Orthodontist?

It is very easy, an Orthodontist only does orthodontic treatment, it does not do fillings, extractions or any other dental procedures.  You could also check with AHPRA if is registered as a Specialist Orthodontist.

Most orthodontist are also registered with the American Association of Orthodontist  that is the world’s oldest and largest dental specialty organization.
